Quantum Computing for Excellence in Science and Technology (QUEST)
QUEST is developing a Quantum Computing Hub (QHub) as a collaborative platform to exploit quantum computing applications in science and technology. Check here for more information.
About QUEST
The project Quantum Computing for Excellence in Science and Technology (QUEST) will create a research group in Quantum Computing at the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of The Cyprus Institute (CyI) under the leadership of the ERA chair Dr. Karl Jansen.
Dr. Jansen will establish a Quantum Computing Hub as a collaborative platform for exploiting Quantum Computing for applications in science and technology in partnership with the Center for Quantum Technology Applications at DESY.
QUEST kick-off event took place on the 28th of February 2023 at the Cyprus Institute premises. The Deputy Minister for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr. Kyriakos Kokkinos, attended the event with a short welcome speech. Prof. Stavros Malas (President of The Cyprus Institute) and Prof. Constantia Alexandrou (QUEST PI) provided short introductions to the project. The main speaker of the event was the ERA Chair Holder, Dr. Karl Jansen, presented the colloquium “Quantum Computing: A future perspective for scientific computing”. More details about the event can be found at the Cyprus Institute’s website. Dr. Jansen’s presentation is available here.
Project Objectives
QUEST responds to the rapid developments that demonstrate the potential of Quantum Computing for breakthroughs in science and technology and the lack of leadership and critical mass of researchers in Cyprus in this field.
The project aims to make Cyprus “quantum ready”, aligning with the objectives of the widening program in general and the ERA chair action in particular. The objectives of QUEST also align by the role of CaSToRC as the national high-performance center of Cyprus, namely by the mission of the center to carry out computation-based interdisciplinary research, spread knowledge and provide support to local researchers in using computing technologies for research and innovation.
QUEST offers training and education for a new generation of scientists and engineers, and pursues collaborations with other local research teams and internationally, securing further funding for sustainable development.
